In Algebra II classes we started the year with Trigonometry as it is a part of Common Core Curriculum now. To say that the students were overwhelmed is to say nothing. They talk to the friends who took Algebra II in previous years and their friend would explain that the first semester is extremely easy because it is just a review of Algebra I. So they expect the review, but instead they see something totally and completely new!

To help the students I had them organize different ideas on this foldable. I used it in my geometry classes before when we learned quadrilaterals: it was very fitting. Get it? Quadrilaterals - quadrifold! Students love making it, it is like a throwback to their kindergarten years with crafts every day. Once they made the foldable, they filled it out with all the useful information and they got to use it on the tests!
